When the boys came in from working on the farm, (I stayed home to work on decorating the house while Jon and Sonia worked on installing new lights in our kitchen), they were greeted with a fire blazing in the fireplace, candles lit throughout the freshly decorated room, Christmas music playing our holiday favorites, and appetizers sitting on a cutting board. To begin our Christmas holiday, we toasted our magnificent Father for all His many blessings, prayed for God’s protection and blessings on this new season of our life, and feasted before the fire on delectable cheeses, sausages, crackers, and spreads.

Then when we arrived back in the city, I surprised the children with another treat. In culmination of an in depth study of the Medieval era several years ago, we took the children for a weekend to the very English Cheshire Inn. While we were there I took their picture in the English telephone booth. So when I saw that Pottery Barn had created ornaments that perfectly captured our memories, I purchased one for each child as a remembrance of our wonderful weekend and placed them in peppermint candy cellophane bags as the opening to a surprise dinner at the Scottish Arms.

As Christians, it is our privileged duty to continually celebrate the gift of our families by surprising and delighting our children through beautiful decorations, delicious meals, special treats, fun filled evenings at home, and delightful outings abroad.
